1. INTRODUCTIONS

This was the first face-to-face meeting of the executive team. Angie Prescott, a practicum student, whose involvement was pivotal to the resurrection of the association created the agenda for the day, with the input from the members and the executive team. Jim Anglin, Director of the School of Child and Youth Care at UVIC joined the group for one hour in the afternoon.

2. BRIEF HISTORY, VISION STATEMENT, OBJECTIVES & GOALS

Mike discussed his involvement with the previous executive team near the end of the association’s existence. Mike participated in a working group regarding regulating social service workers. Leane Rose, the current director of Child & Youth Care program at Malaspina, developed a values based certification model. At that time regulation was a provincial initiative. However, the initiative did not become legitimized in the child and youth care field.

Mike stated that the previous association had a committed strong membership and many dedicated practitioners.

Apparently, the Canadian Council of Child and Youth Care have been anxiously awaiting the renewal of CYCABC.

The other executive members did not have experience with the previous association or executive team. However, apparently there are former members of the executive team and of the association that have offered to support the current association. It would behoove the current executive team to reach out and develop relationships with previous members who could provide us with more information regarding the history of the association and whose experience and knowledge could support the creation of a strong CYCABC.

The group participated in a brainstorming session around the objectives, mission and vision and goals of the association.
