Meet the CYCABC executive - read bios and contact info

February 25, 2003 Executive Meeting (cont'd)

3. JIM ANGLIN’S CONTRIBUTIONS

7th Annual International Child and Youth Care Conference

Jim offered the option of the association becoming involved in the conference by having members of the executive or the association on a panel or as a presenter.
He also requested the permission of the executive team to put our existing logo on conference posters. The executive were all in agreement and forwarded that information to Jim at a later date.

Registration

Jim participated in the same working group as Mike Burnett. A draft white paper regarding the registration of the social service profession was forwarded to MCFD.
At the time it was a Joint Board of various professional representatives, i.e. S.W., CYC, ECE. The social workers were pushing for mandatory registration and have since been successful.
We must have CYC representation at the table so that we continue to be seen, understood and accepted as a professional body with competent, educated, skilled practitioners in the field of child and youth care.

Professionalization

The NDP acknowledged that this sector is way below other sectors in terms of recognition, salaries, and working conditions and did considerable work to decrease the gap. However, now it appears as though the gap may be widening.

With the government cuts, half of the CYC jobs will be cut. Essentially, child and youth care is under attack. The association could become a unified voice against the widening gap and attack. For example, in Ontario child and youth care workers in schools effectively lobbied for the same wage as teachers.
